A lot has changed in the real estate market since National Homeownership Month was enacted in 2003.  It was created when homeownership was at an all time high and was meant to encourage first-time homeownership specifically for minority families.  With the shift in the economy and the real estate market, the focus this year is on sustainable homeownership - "going green," preventing foreclosure, and protecting your investment.
