Walkability!

Posted on May 26, 2010
What is walkability and why is it important?

Walkability is a measure of how friendly a neighborhood is to walking (to schools, parks, restaurants, etc.).  It is gaining popularity in consumer housing preferences and is an important concept in sustainable urban design.  You can check out the walkability score of your house/neighborhood at:

So even if you aren't particularly interested in the walkability of your neighborhood, why is it still an important measure?  Because studies have shown that a higher walkability score can increase the value of a home from $4,000 to $34,000.  Click on the image below to read "Does Walkability Raise Property Values" from Houselogic.
